True Boxcar Children Style...I felt that this book was written in the true Boxcar Children style. This is one of the original books in the series and has the same wonderful story line. I love the Boxcar children stories and recommend this one along with all the others.

The Candy Factory Mystery (Boxcar Children Special (Library), No 18)
Published in School & Library Binding by Albert Whitman & Co (April, 2002)
Average review score:

Candy FactoriesThe Candy Factory Mystery by Gertrude Chandler Warner is about four orphan children living in a boxcar alone. These children are Benny, Violet, Jessie, and Henry Alden. They eventually find their grandfather and they are working in a candy factory. Strange things are going on in the factory and the workers are acting like they do not want to be with the Aldens. Read this book to find out who was causing the problems at the candy factory.
I liked this book because it is a mystery and I like to try and figure it out before it ends. I think other school aged children would like this book. It is a series and there are more books to read about the Aldens.
I think the author wrote this because she wanted people to read mysteries and have imagination.

The Canyon (A Zia Book)
Published in Paperback by University of New Mexico Press (June, 1980)
Average review score:

Great story of man and natureThis is a unique coming-of-age story, set in the Badlands well before the arrival of white settlers. Little Bear is a native American adolescent. He has won admiration for courage and skill in hunting, but his distaste for war against other tribes has made him somewhat of a misfit. As a rite of passage into adulthood, he must spend about two weeks alone in the wilds, eating only what he can kill or find. During this retreat, he falls in the dark into a canyon. The "two weeks" could be much shorter or longer, depending on whether he can survive or ever get out. I confess I am not reviewing the audio cassette, but the book which I read in 1958, then 1980, then 1994. I was spellbound when I first read it, and years later the magic was still there. The word pictures are superb. Little Bear's encounters with bison and a mountain lion become very suspenseful. I really hope this book can become available to the public in a more affordable format. It is nothing like SHANE, Schaefer's most famous story, which I found enjoyable though somewhat trite. But I found CANYON to be not only Schaefer's best, but one of the best by any author. This nontraditional Western would be cherished by those who love nature and nonviolence.

The Civil War Letters of First Lieutenant James B. Thomas, Adjutant, 107th Pennsylvania Volunteers (Army of the Potomac Series)
Published in Hardcover by Butternut & Blue (July, 1996)
Average review score:

Book DescriptionPublished for the first time, this manuscript contains the descriptive letters of a perceptive Pennsylvanian who served throughout the war. The unit saw action in the Second Manassas Campaign, at Antietam, at Gettysburg and in other major battles fought by the Army of the Potomac. In 1863, it served in the famous First Corps and fought on Oak Ridge on July 1. The regiment, which later was assigned to the Fifth Corps, was actively engaged in the 1864-65 campaigning. Since the 107th never had a unit history published, these letters provide the first in-depth look at the 107th Pennsylvania. Richard Sauers labeled this set of letters as "some of the very best Civil War missives that I have ever read."

Clash of the Titans: How the Unbridled Ambition of Ted Turner and Rupert Murdoch Has Created Global Empires That Control What We Read and Watch Each Day (Unabridged)

"Risky Business""Clash of the Titans," by entertaining writer Richard Hack is a very impressive read. A lot of reasearch went into the creation of this 'Must Read' 544 page book. Hack gives the reader a look inside the media world of business as well a look inside the personal and professional lives of Ted Turner and Keith Rupert Murdoch. Risk taking, careful planning, and gutsy determination is what it takes to become like these two media moguls...men of position, power, and fame. So now that you know how to do it get out there and go conquer the world! I plan to, smile...

Classic Rock Guitar: Guitar Book (The Ultimate Beginner Series)
Published in Paperback by Warner Brothers Publications (August, 2000)
Average review score:

Beginners - Play Real Songs FastI've bought lots of beginner books for learning rock and blues guitar technique, but this book is great for learning to play real songs quickly without having to understand a lot of theory or being a master of scales. The standards covered in the book and CD are simplified versions - slowed down - of Hotel California, Europa (Santana), Tush, Riders on the Storm and Proud Mary. Once you pick through the tab a few times, you can start playing along with the CD fairly quickly. I'd still recommend that you invest in a utility that let's you slow down the tracks even more to be able to hear the different notes, like Transcribe!

Commonsong: Accoustic Meditations
Published in Audio Cassette by Ave Maria Press (May, 1995)
Average review score:

Excellent combination of songs for meditation and backgroundI have listened to this tape many times while traveling on long trips. It is soothing and stimulates prayer. The combination of songs are thoughtfully arranged and very well performed. I recommend it highly for meditation or as background to drown out the daily noise. I wish it was in CD format also.

Communication Skills for Information Systems
Published in Paperback by Financal Times Management (December, 1995)
Average review score:

An Excellent resourceWarner's book is one of the best I've read on communication in information environments. Written for British university students studying Systems Analysis and Consulting, it is a valuable resource on written and oral communication, and covers team work, interviewing and negotiation techniques, creating and maintaining documentation, and training issues. Especially commendable is Warner's sensitivity to cultural differences in communication and business practice. All in all, an excellent resource.
